John T. LiVecchi, MD, FACS, FSEE is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained oculoplastic surgeon, specializing in Eyelid and Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He is the Director of Oculoplastics at the Lange Eye Institute in the Villages, Ocala and eight other Lange Eye Care offices in Florida. There has been an increased understanding of the importance of the relationship of healthy eyelids to both appearance and proper vision. The more common conditions affecting the areas around the eye are upper and lower eyelid surgery which includes blephroplasty, ectropions, entopions, ptosis, browlifts, cysts and tumors, tear duct problems and reconstructive surgery. In addition, non surgical liquid facelifts using lasers, Botox®, Restylane®, Juvaderm®, Radiesse® and other fillers are other methods to improve the cosmetic appearance of the face and areas around the eye, procedures that can also lead to improved vision.
Dr. LiVecchi received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the City University of New York at Richmond and earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Rome. He served his
internship at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and completed a residency in ophthalmology at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center and was chief resident there from 1981 to 1982. From 1982 to 1983 he was a Fellow in Oculoplastic Surgery at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.Dr. LiVecchi is Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando, Florida. He regularly makes scientific presentations, exhibits his work at academic meetings, and has published numerous articles. He is a contributing author to several texts on ophthalmology. Dr. LiVecchi was chosen by the ASCRS to be a poster judge during their annual meetings from 2010 to the present.
Dr. LiVecchi was recently nominated for the Chairman of The Board of Directors at The Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research (LEITR) in Tampa Florida and was unanimously elected to that post. His term started July 1, 2014. He served as the Vice Chairman of The Board of Directors for the past two years and was also the inaugural Chairman of the Visionary Committee there as well. LEITR is the world’s largest eye bank and the only eye bank to have a state-of-the-art ocular tissue research facility onsite. LEITR provides whole globes, corneas, lenses, sclera, retinas/retinal pigment epithelium, and other tissues/cells from healthy and diseased eyes, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, many within 4 to 6 hours after death. An Ocular Bio-repository is currently being considered to expand our research tissue offerings along with research projects that are underway.
Dr. LiVecchi travels worldwide as a Course Director teaching state-of-the-art surgery to other eye doctors and plastic surgeons. He currently is the Medical Director of three medical companies in the USA and sits on several boards as an officer and a director. Dr. LiVecchi was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. He practiced Ophthalmology in Pennsylvania for 20 years and was in the US Army Reserve. Dr. LiVecchi’s hobbies include tennis, wine making, travel, theater, fine dining and sporting events.
